DTF Transfer Guide

How to press your DTF (Direct to Film) transfer so it looks great and lasts wash after wash.

Use a heat press. An iron or EasyPress won't give enough even pressure for DTF to bond properly.

Step by step

1Pre-press your item for 5 to 10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.

2Press at 285°F (140°C) for 16 seconds with medium pressure (3 to 5 bar if your press shows it).

3Let it cool completely, then peel the film off slowly.

4Second press: cover with a Teflon sheet and press for 5 seconds.

What can I press it on?

DTF works on lots of materials:

  • Cotton
  • Polyester
  • Cotton/poly blends
  • Canvas (totes, aprons and more)
  • Even wood!

Trying something new? Do a test press first.

Washing and care

  • Wait 48 hours before the first wash.
  • Turn the garment inside out.
  • Wash in cold water with a mild detergent.
  • Skip the fabric softener and bleach.
  • Tumble dry low or hang to dry.
  • Don't iron directly on the print.

Edges lifting?

No worries, it's totally OK to re-press your transfer.

Press it again and let it cool completely. Then press with the Teflon sheet on top for 5 seconds.

Every heat press varies a little. These settings are a starting point, so a quick test press is always a good idea.
